Helloooo everyone!
I'm so sorry that this blog has had so few entries. My internet use has been so sparse, and the time that i have when i get on is so so short.
I'm in my last week here and it feels like I just got here. This past week has been the best so far!
On Friday we checked into our hotel at Cape Coast. On Saturday morning we went to a rain forest in the area. We hiked to the top of a mountain in the rain forest. Upon reaching the top we walked across a thousand foot bridge made of a plank of wood and rope around 150 feet above the rain forest floor. We were walking on top of the canopy trees. It was amazing. Such a cool experience.
From there we went to two slave castles. They were entirely intense. The slave castles were once used to keep the slaves until they would be exported to where ever their final destination would be. I stood where slaves onces squatted, packed like sardines. I smelled the same musty stench. I looked out of a "peep hole" through which the Master would look to choose the woman slave that he would later have cleaned up and sexually exploit. I walked through "the door of no return" through which slaves walked to get to their ships... never again to set foot in their homeland. This blog cannot really explain the intensity of the experience. It was out of this world.
On Sunday, at the University of Ghana, there was a program called AISEC, which is a program for international students. The purpose of it was for each group, or individual, to get up and talk about their home country. Later we did a lot of different Ghanaian dances and such that we had all learned the week before when we took African drumming and dancing lessons.
So this upcoming weekend is going to jam packed also. Today we went to Kofi Annans peacekeeping training center which was pretty cool. While we were there we met this marine who gave us a fresh invite on Thursday night to a cocktail party at the US embassy. Apparently its a pretty big deal. Dressy and stuff. haha. We are so excited. Then from there we go to the Volta region, where we will have a more fun and relaxing weekend after the last couple of weeks which have been pretty intense.
Overall this trip has been absolutely amazing. I have learned so much about my self, about people, about Africa, about God. It has been truly refreshing and has reminded me of my first loves. It has brought me back to the things that wake me up in the morning. It has put a new blaze in me that had started to fade in terms of my ambitions, dreams, and my faith.
Well, my internet time will soon expire. Again, I am so sorry that my blogs have been so few and far between, not to mention horrible grammatically and stuff haha. This will probably be my last one. I might post one or two more when I get home, just processing and reflecting on everything that has happened here.
Thanks for reading. And I'll see you all soon : )
loveeeeeee me
